Zazen Pousada By Santoregano

A little piece of paradise in the middle of Maceió. The rustic architecture keeps its character while still offering all the technology you need. The hosts are so helpful and friendly, and breakfast is fresh, delicious, and full of variety. SantOrégano is worth mentioning too, the pizza there is like no other.

The staff, Jackson, Manu, and Diane, took such good care of us that we felt like part of the family. There are only two rooms at the pousada, and the breakfast was spectacular. When they heard we had an early outing the next day and would miss breakfast, they prepared us a snack to take along. Our room was huge and incredibly comfortable, almost like a spa. It made us want to spend the whole day resting. The pousada feels wonderfully peaceful and calm, even though it's in the middle of the city. The location might give you pause, but the place itself makes it worthwhile. Next time, we'll stay longer to enjoy it more. The host also has a restaurant on site that's well worth trying, with the same care and quality as the pousada. Gru and a friendly little cat are part of the charm, acting like they own the place. If you get the chance to stay at Zazen, go for it. You won't regret it.

A unique, wonderful stay, and very different from the usual. The room was spacious, with lovely rustic decor, and the bathroom was charming. Breakfast was exceptional, delicious, generous, and full of choices, served at the owners' table on their veranda. The staff were happy to accommodate guests' requests. If you're lucky, Niyati and Almir, the owners, will keep you company with good conversation and plenty of laughs. The staff women were also great, attentive, dedicated, and friendly. It felt like staying at friends' home. We'll miss it!

We spent a week at pousada Zazem, and it was one of the best stays we've ever had, maybe the best. Seu Almir and his wife were warm and attentive from day one, and all the staff were polite and eager to help with any request. Gru, the family's dog, deserves a mention too. He's incredibly gentle and affectionate. The rooms are huge, with fantastic rustic decor, and breakfast is generous with local dishes every day. The pousada is in a quiet, secluded spot, yet only about 20-30 minutes by car or Uber from the more central, touristy neighborhoods of Maceió. There were always drivers nearby, so we did everything by Uber. Santoregano, the owners' pizzeria right in front of the pousada, has plenty of great meals if you don't want to go far. We also recommend Ipioca, Paripueira, and Guaxuma beaches. We skipped trips farther up the north coast because these nearby beaches are just as beautiful as better known ones like são miguel dos milagres, and they're quieter and cheaper. A thousand out of a thousand for the pousada. We hope to come back!
