Hotel Mural Living

I stayed in room 301, with a king bed, refrigerator, and desk. By Brazilian standards the room was great, though its furnishings felt more like a Super 8 or Motel 6. The bed was comfortable, but the cleaning could have been better. There were no blankets, and with the AC running all the time, I needed one, so I had to ask at the front desk. A few more drawers for clothes would help. The shower tiles needed cleaning, the drain was cracked, and the faucets were hard to turn off. The location was excellent, near the Mercado and boat docks, though traffic delayed Uber pickup. You can get drinks at the front desk, and staff can help arrange tours. The staff were exceptional. I'm American, so I know I have biases, but I recommend staying here and would come back.

The service is why I love this place. The receptionists are so helpful, and they contacted me on WhatsApp before I arrived to speed up check-in. It all went smoothly, which I really appreciated after driving continuously for 12 hours. Five stars again!

We booked based on the reviews and stayed three nights. The hotel was just adequate, with a spacious room, but the sink was in the sleeping area, there was no vanity, and the bathroom was basic. Our shower's tile grout badly needed cleaning or replacing. The included breakfast was below average: the scrambled eggs were cold every morning, though the coffee was good. There was just one pillow on the bed, and getting another seemed like a major undertaking. The bedside lamps had North American style plugs, so bring an adapter. The area wasn't what we expected. The streets near the port were generally filthy, with litter and outdoor shops selling the usual merchandise. Homeless people slept on the street in front of the hotel. We called it a sketchy part of town and always took an Uber after sunset, no matter how short the trip. A security person watched the front door after dark. During the day, the shops were open and we didn't feel unsafe. The port is nearby, but better restaurants are in the theatre area, where the streets are cleaner, wider, and tree-lined. We canceled our last night after our cruise, but the process wasn't simple. The front desk couldn't cancel the reservation, and there was no link to modify or cancel it. My wife had to send two messages before the cancellation was accepted.
