The guides really made our two nights at Juma. Marcos was friendly, clearly loved his work, and knew a lot. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the food was really good. We had no trouble with bugs or insects, so I wouldn't let the negative reviews put you off. This isn't the Ritz Carlton, and it doesn't claim to be. It gives you a comfortable way to experience the Amazon, and it delivers. We had an amazing time.

We really enjoyed the food, especially the grilled fish, which was the best we had on our trip. The property is beautiful and well cared for, and the lodges look out over the river. They're basic, but our sheets and towels were clean and there was hot water. Our guide, Alex, was the disappointing part. I often couldn't hear him, and he didn't seem very interested in sharing information. He kept telling my son and me that we wouldn't be able to do things. I don't need his opinions about what I can or can't manage. I understand he lives there and has seen it all before, but we were visitors and everything was new to us.

Ralph was a fantastic guide on our tours. We learned so much about the ecosystem, the people who live there, how the forest is preserved, and how this huge rainforest, spread across 6 countries, affects our lives and the rest of the world. The tours were fabulous, and everyone working at the lodge was wonderful. The views are breathtaking, and having a hammock in some rooms is a lovely extra for relaxing. Rooms are nicely decorated for a jungle rainforest stay, with fans and A/C in some. The bathrooms had hot and cold water all the time. Breakfast and lunch were buffets with a good range of options; dinner was a la carte, with appetizers, a main course, and dessert. Wi-Fi was only available in reception. From pickup at Manaus airport through to the final dropoff, the crew and transfers were outstanding. Allow 3 to 4 hours for the airport journey, depending on the weather. Tours are planned around how many days you stay, so you can't fully tailor them to your requests. Riverview bungalows cost a bit more than foresr view bungalows, but offer the best views, a balcony, and more space. Some rooms have A/C, which may suit you if hot weather isn't your thing, especially in summer. Expect humidity unless you're visiting in winter, and pack plenty of comfortable clothes. There were no mosquitoes in the Juma river because of the acidic water, which was a huge plus.

We saw dolphins and a couple of insects on the tours, which were nice, though don't expect much adventure. The pool was beautiful, and the food was amazing. But at that price, having no AC is a bit of a dealbreaker.

Anne was our guide, and her knowledge of the forest and love for it really came through. I also liked that meals and excursions were included and already planned. You could just show up, or skip an outing if you were tired. The staff were very friendly, and Juma Lodge was peaceful and beautiful, just as advertised. I was concerned about the lack of air conditioning because I get hot flashes, but the fans are powerful and I slept well every night. Take quick drying clothes, since you'll sweat through them. I had one pair of quick drying pants and found them useful, though two pairs would've been better. They provide water in the rooms and common areas, and you'll want to drink plenty. We didn't need insect repellent at the lodge, but did need it on some excursions. Don't go expecting abundant wildlife. We saw a few animals here and there, so you might be disappointed if you expect to see lots. The boat rides were awesome. Bring a hat, and have decent mobility because you'll be getting in and out of the boats constantly. Bring cash if you plan to buy something from the natives you visit. Wi-Fi is only in the reception area, though room 2 has it. My husband and I were very happy with the experience and recommend it.
