Pousada Villa Bougainville Maragogi

What makes this place stand out most is the way the owners and staff treat their guests. We first came to Maragogi last year and loved everything: the rooms, the view, the service and the food. We enjoyed it so much that we returned this year with two more couples, and they're loving it too. It's a beautiful, well-kept inn in a great location, a little paradise for both its setting and the care it receives.

I stayed from September 19 to 21, 2025. The inn is lovely and very well cared for, but our room smelled strongly of mold. I was there with my young daughter, and one night I asked to use the kitchen to boil water for her milk. There were cockroaches all over the place, on the counter, dishes, table and even on a covered cake. I was horrified. I considered asking to cancel, but by then it was too late. I hadn't got proof, so on the second night I brought my phone when I went to make her milk and filmed the cockroaches. The scene was the same as before. I spent three days there unable to drink water at the inn, and had to go out for breakfast with my family. In the morning I told the manager, Cris, what I'd seen, how unhappy I was, and that I'd had to pay for breakfast elsewhere even though the inn offered it. With that many cockroaches, I couldn't eat there. Cris only explained that this kind of cockroach comes out at night, that the inn is treated monthly, and that the kitchen could be shown to me clean during the day. I couldn't reach the owner. I asked three times to speak with her and never got that chance. I left extremely disappointed by what I saw and by how it was handled.

The inn itself is attractive, clean and well looked after. The café and bar staff were kind and attentive, and the women at reception were very friendly too. Sadly, our experience with the owner was extremely unpleasant. We confirmed what happened with some of the inn's staff. As we left with bags of clothes for the laundry, she looked us up and down disrespectfully, then kept staring until we went through the gate. It was embarrassing and spoiled our evening. We didn't expect to be treated that way in such a pleasant place.

The garden design and decor are highlights, and the pool is a nice place to unwind after swimming in the sea. The pousada sits right on the sand, with access to a beach that's almost private. Breakfast was good, as were the room, comfortable bed and shower. The road is close by, though, and that could bother light sleepers.
