Pousada Xaréu Maragogi

The room was awful: cramped, with an old mattress and a bed that creaked whenever we moved. We even saw a rat running around. The woman at reception welcomed us very warmly and let us check in early, but I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone.

The location is the standout here. It’s right between Antunes and Pontal do Mangue, with its own access to beautiful beaches, warm water, coconut palms, and sandbars leading to natural pools at low tide. Dinner delivery is available too. The property has two buildings, and the newer one above Paraiso Beach Bar may have the better rooms, like the ones shown in the photos that led us to book. We stayed in the older building, where our room was ugly, poorly ventilated, short on storage, and below basic. Room service was questionable. The air conditioning and shower worked fine, and breakfast was acceptable. If you’re weighing location against price, try to book above Paraiso Bar and keep your expectations moderate.

The room was tiny, and our TV sat off to the side of the bed, which was awkward. Wi-Fi and air conditioning both worked perfectly. Even though we had a language barrier, the afternoon and evening reception staff were consistently kind and helpful.

The location is the one good thing, right on the sand. The restaurant out front belongs to the inn and is so expensive it isn’t worth it. I can’t recommend staying here. The building is very old, breakfast is limited and tightly controlled, and the internet is awful. Staff were grumpy and unfriendly, only pretending to be nice when the owners were around. The towels felt more like floor rags, they never changed our sheets or cleaned the floor during my stay, and everything felt very run-down for what we paid. On the second day someone scratched my rental car, and the owner wouldn’t even accept responsibility for the damage. I’m protected by consumer law, though they seemed too ignorant to know what that is. Her son was extremely arrogant and started yelling about the whole situation as if he were right. What was meant to be a rest turned into a nightmare. It was the worst place I’ve stayed in Maragogi, and they don’t respect their guests. I hope this comment stays near the top so people think twice before booking this awful place.
