The only thing I liked was the TV, which had a very good picture. Everything else made for a horrible stay, and I wouldn’t recommend this place even for one night. We changed rooms three times, and each one had worse problems. The rooms and walls were dirty, the paint was peeling, the floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and the shower wouldn’t heat up. The bedding was worn and mismatched, the blankets seemed questionably clean, there was no hand towel or toilet paper, and the noisy minibar was another annoyance. The fan didn’t work. The air conditioning cost $50, took ages to cool the room, and had a locked temperature setting. You had to switch it on and off manually and climb onto a chair to operate it. The parking was uncovered and on the street. Breakfast was awful, with dirty cups, missing cutlery, and cold cuts that hadn’t been replenished. Hotel guests and staff made noise at 2 a.m., then an employee talked in the hallway at 4:20. On Sunday morning, the receptionist was on the phone at full volume. One staff member was very rude, coming to charge me for the air conditioning right after we returned from lunch, before I’d even checked whether it worked. I travel a lot and have stayed in simple hotels, but never one this run-down. I can’t call this a three-star hotel.

During our second and final day, my family and I gave back the key and went to a bakery for a decent breakfast. The food there was the worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had: boiled coffee, powdered juice, stale bread, cold cuts that looked old, horrible-tasting sausage, and even the scrambled eggs didn’t look right. We also spent two nights without sleeping properly because people talked and played TikTok videos late at night. The pillows smelled so bad I couldn’t use one, and I couldn’t wash my hair properly because of the shower. I’ve stayed in plenty of old, basic, cheaper hotels, and being simple or inexpensive doesn’t mean a place has to be neglected. To me, the basics are clean painted walls and floors, fresh sheets and towels, a working shower, decent breakfast, and respect for other guests’ sleep. I didn’t find any of that at Hotel Casa Grande de Marília. The walls were extremely dirty and moldy, as if they hadn’t been cleaned or painted since it opened. The sheets were stained and didn’t fit the mattress, so they kept slipping off. The pillows smelled, the blankets had a strong stored-away odor and were impossible to use, and the towels were stained and too thin to dry anything. The mattresses were dirty and smelled strongly of dust. The shower head was clogged and sprayed in all directions, making it almost impossible to bathe. The bathroom was dirty, the toilet seat was soiled and the bowl was stained, and the walls were peeling and moldy. I’ve never felt disgusted to lie in a bed or eat a meal before, but this hotel managed that. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

For the price, I thought the place was reasonable and it’s pretty basic. The real downside was the noise around 3 or 4 in the morning. I don’t know if it came from guests or staff, but it woke me up and I couldn’t get back to sleep. They should put up signs and remind people to keep quiet, at least between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The room I got was in terrible shape. I’ve never been kidnapped, but staying there made me feel like I was being held captive.

A simple, cozy hotel, and Dona Maria is such a kind, warm person. May God always bless you all 🙏
