Kuriuwa Hotel

We spent a week in one of Kuriuwa's most luxurious rooms, Estrelas. It could be a great place: the views are lovely, the amenities are nice, the rooms are great when everything works, and the staff were great apart from the manager. But several issues really brought down our stay. The hotel already knew about the room problems before we arrived and didn't tell us or offer a discount. When we raised them with the manager at the end, she sounded sympathetic and apologized, but didn't offer any discount, even though one was clearly warranted. The pool area had a leaky roof in several spots, and the pool waterfall was broken when we arrived. After we called for service, it worked only partly. The pool heating never worked properly during our stay, despite many service calls, so we mostly couldn't use the pool. The sauna thermostat also showed a clearly wrong temperature. On top of that, the internet was unreliable. The food was just so-so for an expensive, high-end boutique hotel. We were especially disappointed by breakfast: nearly all the options were full of sugar, with hardly any healthy choices that weren't sugary. The gym looked good, but was disappointing to use. Some machines didn't work properly, and neither did the fan, with no AC in the room. It's a shame, since a few relatively minor fixes could help this place live up to its potential.
