Pousada Casa do Portal

The breakfast was fine, pretty average compared with other hotels I’ve stayed at. The inn is right at the entrance to Monte Verde, across from the police station, and close to everything. We walked along the long Monte Verde avenue to explore, then drove around the next day too. The place looked like the Booking photos. Our bathroom drain was clogged, so we had to keep showers short or the floor would flood. It didn’t get in the way of the trip, though. Everything else was okay.

We could explore the city on foot, with plenty of lovely walks from the inn. It’s close to restaurants, shops, and lots more. Barbara was a wonderful host, and the homemade breads, cakes, and jams at breakfast were delicious. Really grateful for the warm welcome!

The room heater didn’t work, and the shower and bathtub never got very hot. There was dark water in the bathroom, and the cleaning wasn’t very good. I left disappointed and upset. I expected the place to be better, and felt they should show guests more care instead of seeming focused only on making money. It was a bad experience.

The location is good and the room is a decent size, but the setup didn’t feel like an inn. There’s no reception, and you deal directly with the owners, who don’t live on the property. The path down to the chalet is difficult.
