It seems aimed at business travelers whose companies are paying. Our room clearly hadn’t been looked after, with strange stains on the walls and only very basic cleaning. I wouldn’t stay again unless it cost nothing.

Given the city and what’s available around here, I’d consider this one of the safer choices for both service and rooms. It might rate four stars abroad, but locally it’s among the best options you’ll find.

At Pilotis, breakfast comes with plenty of choice and the staff are warm and helpful, whether or not you speak Portuguese. Ms. Yessica Marina deserves a special mention for being so efficient, friendly, and helpful.

The breakfast was good, and room service had simple meals ready without too much of a wait. The baggage storage room was fine. Laundry took two days, with pickup before 11 a.m. and delivery at 9 p.m. the next day, so I didn’t use it. I stayed twice and the rooms were very different. The 11th-floor room was quite good, with newer furniture, a couch, and a TV that could switch speech dubbing to English. On my second stay, the 10th-floor room was smaller, its door was damaged and unreliable, the shower was rusty, and the older TV lacked modern features. The toilet wasn’t great either.
