Pousada Pé No Mato

Javier from Argentina made our late arrival such a good experience. I got in very late, but he stayed beyond his finishing time to make sure I was checked in and comfortable. I also saw him give another guest the same high level of care. Such generous hospitality. Thanks, Javier!

The owner was extremely rude. Stay away from this pousada and coworking. Before I even visited, other tourists had warned me that the owner was “rude and aggressive,” so this reputation is already out there. The woman was indeed aggressive, saying things like “you speak English? very badly, right?” and “look at me when you talk to me.” That hostile atmosphere made my visit unpleasant. The owner should treat guests with basic respect and stop making rude comments about them and giving orders. I hope she realizes this behavior is unacceptable and is driving customers away. Until there are significant changes, I can’t recommend this hostel to anyone. I’ll share this feedback with everyone I met.

We did have a great time, but that was thanks to ourselves. Pe No Mato wasn’t worth it, and next time I’ll get to town and find a place I like with actual hosting staff, not just pretty faces riding along. We’d told them in advance we were arriving early, since the three buses get there at 9, 13, and 19, but got no answer. We decided to go anyway. At reception, they wouldn’t offer us coffee, let us leave our bags, or let us wait there, and told us to return after 1330 with our big bags on our backs. When we came back, they made us pay before entering the room. We paid, then found it wasn’t the room we’d booked. There were economic and superior options, and I’d agreed to pay 40 R$ extra for the superior after being told it had a balcony, a mosquito net on the bed, and a mountain view. Instead we got a room with a balcony at floor level, no net, and a view of other rooms and a wall. I complained, but the three different receptionists spoke no English and refused to change it, saying Booking had chosen it automatically. They said I could complain to management on Monday.

The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, and breakfast was incredible. It’s a fantastic hotel. I wish I could’ve stayed longer, and I highly recommend it. Book your tours with Silvia the owner. She has the best intentions and wants people to experience and enjoy the beauty of Chapada. She got us the best deal in town and one of the top guides. I can’t thank her enough for being so kind.
