Pousada Dom Angelo

Our stay was a disaster, and we felt completely disrespected. We booked the pousada's most expensive room for three nights so my husband and I could rest without our children. We managed only one night, then left in the early hours of 30/01 and had to spend an extra R$1000 finding somewhere else in the middle of the night. In the suite mostarda, there were cockroaches everywhere. I smelled them at check-in but was exhausted and ignored it. My husband saw several in the bathroom that first night. On the second night, I found one crawling across the sheet, bedspread, and pillow. It looked like there was a nest inside one of the old pieces of furniture, especially around the bathroom. This felt like a serious failure of hygiene, care, maintenance, and pest control. There also seemed to be a bat nest in the ceiling. They made noise all night, and there was an unbearable, unhealthy smell in the room. I believe they were urinating and defecating above the wooden ceiling. A drip fell from the ceiling beside the bed even though it wasn't raining, and I suspect it was urine from the animals in the roof space. The ceiling wood looked moldy and as if it hadn't been maintained for years. The sheets and towels were extremely old. The air conditioner was noisy, and the fan barely moved any air. There were too many rugs, curtains, and pieces of furniture in the room, and the poor cleanliness left it dusty enough to set off even a non-allergic person's rhinitis. At 22:30 on 30/01, I contacted the owner Ângela to ask for clean sheets. She didn't offer a suitable response or solution, resisted giving us fresh sheets, and tried to blame us for not reporting the problem sooner. The next morning, when she noticed we had left, her only concern was whether I would come for breakfast, so the food we had already paid for wouldn't go to waste. To me, that showed a lack of commitment and respect for guests.

We booked the suite mostarda for three nights and stayed only one. I killed four cockroaches, three in the bathroom and one in the bed among the bedspread and pillows. There was some animal in the ceiling space making a lot of noise at night, probably bats, and a horrible smell of urine came from above the ceiling. We couldn't take it and left the pousada during the second night, after 11pm, to find another place to stay in Paraty. When we gave Dona Ângela our feedback, she ignored us and stopped replying to our messages. The whole stay felt disrespectful to guests and cost us a lot of money. I don't recommend it.

The place was beautiful when I stayed there some time ago, but the owner was intrusive and made rude comments that exposed private matters. The breakfast was awful. My husband and I went elsewhere for coffee.

This was the worst place I've ever stayed. Dona Angela seemed to be doing nearly everything, from receiving guests to making breakfast, and there were practically no employees. What a disappointment. Don't stay here. The breakfast was worse than a bar's, served individually at each table. The bread was stale, there were no cakes or anything else, just one scrambled egg. When I asked Dona Angela for another egg, she said there weren't any. During our three nights, our towels and bed linen were never changed, and they didn't replace the soap either. There were opossum nests in the ceiling that kept us from sleeping. When we complained, Angela said, “I can't do anything.” The pool was dirty and unusable, and the games room was closed. There were cats and a smell of pee all over, cockroaches in the room, and the minibar had only one bottle of water. It felt like a failing pousada with only Dona Angela around. If you do stay, ask them to pay someone to clean the room. This place is a total trap.
