The outdoor area was lovely and peaceful, and my room was spotlessly clean. Maria, the owner, and Mônica made us feel very welcome and were extremely attentive. I did think breakfast could offer more variety, especially sweet breads. The pool also seemed poorly placed, right beside the breakfast area, so it lacked some privacy, which matters since it's one of the main attractions. Still, I really enjoyed the stay and would stay at Pousada Villa Del Rey again when I return to Paraty.

This was my worst experience. The room smelled of mold constantly, and we were there in cold weather, but the heating was awful. The air conditioning only worked on cool. The TV had no signal, and the Wi-Fi didn't reach our room. The old outlets near the bed didn't work, so we had to use the ones for the TV and minibar. The furniture looked reused, but the worst part was the bed: two single mattresses pushed together to make a double, both filthy and covered in stains. I asked for replacement sheets. The blankets and bath towels were very worn too.

Marie-Lou made us feel so welcome, and was kind, helpful, and full of useful advice. It was a lovely bonus that she speaks French. The rooms are simple but clean and well kept, and breakfast, the pool, and garden made it easy to relax after a day out exploring. We had an excellent stay at Pousada del Rey in Paraty, and I'd recommend it without hesitation.
