Pousada Carmel Garden

This is a place for peace and quiet, but not comfort. The facilities don’t match the photos on Booking, the air conditioner is noisy, and the “kitchen” has no microwave or other appliances for making quick meals. Being a little way out of town also made it harder to get meals. There was a strong smell of bleach, and the pousada offers nothing besides breakfast. I don’t think the price is fair for what’s provided. The host is friendly, but has a lot of intrusive rules that make guests feel less free.

Waking up to birdsong each day and enjoying the calm made this feel like a real sanctuary. Carmel Garden is lovely, charming, peaceful, and very well cared for. The view from the chalets and pool is like something from a film, and the chalets are clean and have everything you need. It’s perfect for families. The chalets were comfortable and spacious, and the pousada sits in a rural area not too far from the historic center. There’s a large leisure area, a well-kept pool, and a very good breakfast. The staff member in charge was attentive and eager to help. My complaints are about the bathroom: it smelled bad even before anyone used it, the shower had no enclosure, the plastic curtain was dirty, and the toilet was stained. There were also no complimentary treats, beer, or bottled water, things that are common at pousadas in the same category.

The accommodation was excellent, the surrounding nature is beautiful, and breakfast was delicious. The heated pool was the one letdown. Its ladder is too short for the depth, with only two steps where it should have four. It’s difficult to use if you don’t have much mobility.
