OYO Hotel Guarany

This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. For what I paid, I expected something basic and without luxuries, but I’m talking about dirt and terrible service, not simplicity. At the very least, they should provide a decent bathroom. The toilet seat was broken and badly cracked. Don’t make the same mistake I did or fall for this trap.

The building is old, which would be fine, but the room had damp patches, mold, and little cockroaches on the sheet. I have allergies and can smell it from far away. We stayed because I booked at the last minute, but I’ll never go near this hotel again. Luckily, I managed to switch to a bigger, airier room. It rained while we were there, and because of the lack of maintenance, water got into the corridor and kitchen. They had several buckets out to catch it, and my mother nearly slipped in the water in the corridor when we left the room. The building looks abandoned. The bed linen smelled used, and the breakfast kitchen looked like a jungle, with plants creeping onto the table. The dishes were all mismatched. The owner is elderly and seemingly doesn’t realize how important it is to keep even a simple place presentable. The app photos don’t match reality at all. I’m embarrassed for anyone running a place like this for guests in a good area of Poços de Caldas. This isn’t about the price: I paid 720.00 reais, while the place I’d planned to rent in another neighborhood cost 850.00 and was all new and clean. This hotel is simply neglected.

A terrible stay. We booked through the Booking app, but the photos didn’t reflect what we found. There was mold and damp all over the walls, the old TV didn’t even work, and hygiene was seriously lacking. They don’t maintain the place, and the facilities are in poor shape. It was disgusting.

Carol and her mother were lovely hosts. Carol welcomed us with such grace and was very polite. The room we stayed in was great, with a good bathroom, an excellent shower, and 100% cotton sheets. You can tell this is a quality hotel. I hope things get easier for the owners, as they may be going through a difficult time. Still, there were some noticeable problems with the cleaning and paintwork. Good service could take care of those. I wish them both success.
