I spent five days here, from November 5 to 9, 2012, and barely slept. Room 27 shouldn't be used for guests. I paid the full amount on arrival, 120 R$ per day, which was outrageous for what they offered. Look at your room before paying, so you have a chance to choose somewhere else. The room had no air conditioning or proper ventilation, not even a ceiling or flexible fan. On 30-degree days I was sweating, and the room also had mold from poor ventilation. It was badly painted, had no TV or mini-fridge, and the pillows were awful and dusty, as if they weren't cleaned regularly. Towels weren't provided, and cost 5 R$. Nobody came to tidy the room between days. It was right next to a lounge where people stayed up late talking, watching TV, typing, and playing music. Even at low volume, it kept me awake. The wooden stairs were very loud, especially when people went up and down at night. The computer on the second floor didn't work and seemed to be there for show. The kitchen was unhygienic; guests, mostly young people from all over, left their dirty dishes unwashed. Breakfast was basic and self-serve. The wireless internet kept dropping, according to complaints I heard from other guests. The terrace must be like an oven in summer, and people smoked marijuana there. There were some good things: the reception was friendly, the staff were good, and the mattresses were new, though a bit hard for someone thin. The street was quiet and leafy, and the area had a place nearby to run and rest under trees. There weren't many hotels around. There were books of all kinds, though quite old; I liked Radicci de Caxias Ioti e a Genoveva (casa de italianos) and read it all in two days because I couldn't sleep. You could try practicing English or Spanish with other guests, though that's hard since foreigners want to speak Portuguese and Brazilians want the opposite. The kitchen needs better hygiene and a better look, and something like rubber mats should go on the noisy stairs. The place should install split air conditioning in all the rooms. Room 27 should be closed off for another use, like storage, or the passage to the lounge next to it should be blocked with a wall. Maybe I'd be rich if I charged for these suggestions, but after such a miserable stay, I spent 30 minutes writing this, nothing compared with five days without proper sleep. I hope they improve.
