Intercity Porto Alegre Cidade Baixa

Breakfast was lovely, but staff were very insistent about clearing everything away and starting to charge guests for food at exactly 10am. It makes you wonder if the business is doing okay. The hotel has potential, though it isn’t run as well as it could be. My bed was very comfy, and everything looked nice and clean, but I didn’t have the best stay. The gym was badly run down for such an upmarket hotel. One of the three treadmills didn’t work, another changed speed dangerously while I was using it, and the bikes barely worked. Their computer was faulty, so I couldn’t adjust resistance or incline. At 9am, power tools woke me up even though the hotel offers a much later checkout. There was no warning, and drilling and banging went on until noon, then stopped for the rest of the day. They could have done that after checkout. Aside from reception, it was extremely hard to communicate with staff. I know I’m in Brazil and try to learn a few phrases out of respect, but hotels should have staff with basic English. Ordering food and drinks was a struggle, and our drinks order was wrong both times.

The staff were warm, accommodating, and quick to take care of any requests, so I had no reason to complain about their service. The hotel is in a splendid spot for exploring Porto Alegre and offers excellent value. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, well suited to a long weekend, though perhaps less so for a longer stay. The one small drawback was thin walls, which let hallway noise through. I’d confidently recommend it.

The restaurant had a nice food and wine menu, and breakfast was varied and delicious. Staff were very friendly, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the location was excellent. I’d definitely stay here again and strongly recommend it. 10 out of 10!

Nothing remarkable, but everything was fine and good value. The rooms were clean, the shower hot, WiFi worked, and breakfast was nice. Parking costs 6 USD per day, which seems acceptable.
