Solar63 Hostel

Claudia is wonderful and deserves a raise, and the Urugayan guy was really nice too. Everything else felt just as good: the atmosphere, staff, and location were all spot on. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. This was the best hostel of my Brazil trip, and I'd highly recommend it.

We had a nice, quiet stay, and it settled down by 11pm. There was good music, and one employee spoke English really well and was extremely kind. The bathrooms were kept up, though my boyfriend said the shower didn't have much hot water. It was also reasonably priced, and we had some fun at the park across the way. Still, only about half the staff seemed nice, which was disappointing. At breakfast, a man spoke to me in Portuguese. I said I didn't understand, and the employee, who knew some English because she'd checked us out in it, gave me a dirty look and answered him in Portuguese without explaining anything to me. I felt humiliated and ashamed. That alone didn't lower my rating further, since the rest of the stay was nice.

The neighborhood can be dangerous in the evening, and the staff know about that. They also seemed to know the area well and spoke English reasonably well. The hostel was clean and fairly priced, around 12.98 USD a night. It has good Wi-Fi, breakfast, and bottled or canned drinks for sale. The coffee was great too, though maybe my deprived taste buds were doing the talking.

The staff were incredibly nice while I was there, and the shared areas were great. My room was comfortable, and the hostel is well located for a fair price. Breakfast was simple, about what you'd expect from a hostel. I'd definitely stay again.
