I want to share how unhappy I was with this stay. What we found was very different from the lovely, cozy place shown in the hotel's photos and on Instagram. The room was tiny and uncomfortable, the bed made a lot of noise whenever we moved, and the bathroom smelled really bad. Breakfast was disappointing too. It was the exact same thing every day, with very few choices: bread with sausage, cheese, a ham and cheese sandwich, papaya and melon. Nothing varied or different. We asked to have the room cleaned one day, but they put the same dirty pillowcase back on the pillow. I found that shocking and careless about guests' hygiene. There was construction right outside the hotel, with exposed sewage and a really unpleasant smell. Dirty water was running down the street, and we had to walk through it several times to get across. The stay was very bad and far below what the social media photos led me to expect.
The breakfast was simple but tasty, and I think the hotel could improve. The room itself was basic, with just two power outlets in the suite, one of them in the bathroom, and there’s no elevator. Housekeeping has to be requested each day, but the sheets and towels aren’t changed daily. Even after we asked for service, the bathroom was left dirty and smelly. We also had to ask for toilet paper, and the bathroom bin was left without a liner.
The location is very good, and the neighborhood felt really safe. Some employees were wonderful with us, but others wouldn’t even look at us or give complete information. I only found out there was a pool after four days, when an employee happened to mention it. I’d gone to use the jacuzzi, but it was dirty and the water was stagnant. The whole hotel seemed dirty. Breakfast was disappointing, and the food didn’t seem fresh. The employee serving and cleaning the dining room was on her own. The cold cuts tasted old, the coffee seemed reheated for days, and the bread was hard. Room cleaning was awful too. They only pulled the sheets straight, and I asked twice for a face towel to be replaced. I was told the laundry worker hadn’t come. The room still smelled bad after it was supposedly cleaned. There was water dripping from the air conditioner at reception into a bucket, and the room’s AC was dirty. My room was also like a Kinder egg, so tiny there was barely space to move: one person had to step out for another to get in. I left a blouse in the room and later couldn’t find it. I don’t know what happened to it. There’s a lot that needs fixing! 😊
We arrived late, at 11 p.m. on February 21, and were put on the fourth floor. The hotel has no elevator and no one to help with bags. The room was so tiny it was a shock, and the bathroom was even smaller. The window, when open, was about as wide as my forearm. There was no bathroom window, and the extractor fan did nothing about the humidity. Mold covered parts of the walls and ceiling, with tiles up to about a meter high that seemed to hide more mold and damp. There was a huge sewer project on the hotel street. Employees said it had been going on for a long time. Parking nearby was impossible, so I left the car two blocks away. We’d bought a package through Azul to stay here, if this place can even be called a hotel. Breakfast was basic, nothing special, but at least I didn’t get sick from it. My wife spoke with the staff and asked for a ventilated room with a bathroom window. We even asked to move to another hotel in the same chain and offered to pay the price difference, but they made no effort to sort it out. They offered us a room on a different floor instead, and that was the last straw. We checked out at 8 a.m. on February 22, gave up six prepaid nights at Hotel Atlântico, and went looking for a room that didn’t feel like a kidnapper’s hideout. If you have a small child or allergies or rhinitis, stay away. If you don’t care much about your health...
The location was good, and the reception staff were really nice to us. The hotel itself was a letdown, though. I’d rate it two stars rather than sell it as a three star place. Our room was tiny, the bathroom was very basic and smelled moldy, and we had some trouble with the TV connection. The upstairs hydromassage tub only had three jets, and we had to keep calling reception to turn it on. As a sort of compensation, they let guests use the pools at their other hotels. Breakfast was fine for timing and quantity, but the quality was disappointing. On two days the ham tasted very strange, and I got a stomachache after eating some, even though I didn’t finish it. The overall cleaning wasn’t good either. I saw someone clean the hydromassage tub, so I used it, but the stairs and hallways were dirty. A lot of hair stayed on the stairs for two days, with people walking down them and no one sweeping.
