The location in Lapa worked really well for Rio Carnival, and it was economical too. Beds were good, the place was spacious and clean, and there was a nice shared area to hang out in. You can get free RO water, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. The bathrooms are small, though.

Chef Richard's inexpensive meals were great, and I met some good people here. The hostel is right in the middle of the action for Carnival, though the area feels a bit dodgy, so be careful. Some rooms are pretty basic. I'd give it a 4 mainly because of Richard's cooking.

The staff are really friendly, and the location is good. It was a perfectly good place to stay overnight and for Carnival.
