Hotel Astoria Copacabana

The reception guys Kenner and Gabriel sorted everything out for me and helped arrange my excursions for the week. The hotel is only two blocks from the beach, but the beachfront bars all looked the same to me. I had more fun checking out the bars and restaurants on the side streets near the hotel. It's a decent hotel for the money and in a great location. Just be careful, even though it's in the best area, it still feels like anything could happen. Cheers, lads. Dan

The breakfast staff were good about keeping the food replenished, though the selection was quite random. Wi-Fi didn't work at all for us, which may have been because we were on the 10th floor, and luckily we had E sims. We were also on edge after hearing that people had things stolen from rooms and safes by room cleaning, so we took all our valuables with us. Our air-con started dripping on the first night. We reported it, and they said a technician came in from 8-5 and it would be fixed the next day. After a seven-hour bus trip to Rio, we tried to sleep through it, but it still wasn't fixed the following day. We used our towels to keep water from spreading over the floor, leaving us without towels to shower with. We asked three times during the stay if it would be fixed. Each time they took our room number and said they'd sort it, but nothing happened. We left the wet towels on the floor as suggested so they'd be replaced, but got no fresh ones when the room was cleaned, probably because they didn't want more towels covered in water from the air-con. I'd recommend staying elsewhere. This definitely isn't the 3/4 star hotel they recommend.

The breakfast buffet was good, and the location was good too. The rooms are very small, and there's only one key card per room. Check-in takes a long time.

The rooms were decent and breakfast was okay, but I can't get past the fact that there's no water fountain anywhere in the hotel. That's a very basic service.
