Hotel Atlantico Star

Street-facing rooms are extremely noisy from the busy avenue, even with the windows shut. WiFi worked only now and then, and check-in took over half an hour despite my having submitted all the details in advance. Everything was handled on paper. The infrastructure was broken and often dirty, with mold in several places, especially the bathroom. The shower was unhygienic and the toilet kept running. This was far below a four-star standard and I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it.

Once I finally got into a room, it was disgusting: dusty surfaces, stained bedding, and a bathroom that smelled and looked untouched for days. Even basic requests, like a towel or directions, were ignored or met with eye rolls. Getting checked in took hours because the lobby was chaotic and the process was slow and disorganized. Staff were unfriendly, rude and unprofessional. Instead of helping, they argued with guests, including full-on fights at the front desk, and made the situation worse with their attitude. The whole experience was a disaster. Save your time, money and stress, and stay away.

The one confusing thing was that the name on the front of the building didn’t match the name used for booking. Otherwise, my wife and I were very happy with our four-night stay. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, the beds were a good size with comfortable mattresses, and everything worked. The shower was especially good, and the service overall was great. After seeing plenty of one-star and five-star reviews, I decided to give it five stars based on our own experience.

The location is the only good thing about this hotel. For the price, you can find somewhere much better. The building is very old, badly lit, and doesn’t even have a sign showing it’s a hotel. The breakfast is basic, with few options. There are only two elevators, and they’re old. You can hear leaking pipes while riding, and waits can be long. The staff were rude and unhelpful when I had a problem, and seemed likely to blame me rather than help. Security was the worst part: there was no guard, anyone could get to your room, and the emergency stairs were hidden and blocked by boxes and cleaning supplies. A lot of my things disappeared from the room. I told staff I had witnesses that I’d brought them, but they said they could do nothing without evidence. The room didn’t seem to have been cleaned when I arrived. There was dust in the shower and around the room, plus cookies on the window. Housekeeping seemed to just make the bed and rearrange things on the headboard, so keep an eye on your belongings. The shower was either scalding or cold, with no middle setting.
