Atlantis Copacabana Hotel

The hotel is in poor condition, and the neighborhood felt extremely unsafe. The beds had no comforters, the bathrooms leaked and had no hot water, the floors and chairs were dirty, and breakfast was abysmal. For the price, I expected better. The staff showed no warmth or kindness, and asking even simple questions made me feel like a burden. Take your money elsewhere.

Room 1003 was a suite with very good air conditioning and a great mattress. I slept well, and the soundproofing was excellent. Wi-Fi was mostly okay, but uploads and downloads were poor, so it wasn't suitable for work or video calls. The internet also dipped at night. The property and room were very clean, and the area felt safe. Copa Beach is about a seven-minute walk away. Breakfast had a good range of sweet and savoury options, including incredible whole wheat mini croissants I haven't seen anywhere else. My main complaint was reception. One older man seemed grumpy and miserable whenever asked anything, and the guy putting away luggage looked very sullen. Only one or two of the younger men at reception were friendly and spoke English. The other Brazilians were really unfriendly and shouldn't be in tourism. I was told by email that the tiny fitness room had no weights, but it does have hand weights. It's so small only one person, maybe two, can use it at a time, and you have to reserve it.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast had good variety and quality. It starts early, which is handy if you're booking tours. The pool and terrace were interesting, though being so close to the sea makes the pool a spot I wouldn't spend time in. You can walk to Copacabana and Ipanema from here, and other places of interest are 10-20 minutes away by bike. Taxi and Uber trips can take very different amounts of time in heavy traffic, so plan ahead.

The hotel is very clean, and the staff are helpful. Its spot between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches is great. I've had better buffet breakfasts, though.
