Bamboo Rio Hostel

After a couple of nights in a private room, I found bed bugs and bites all over my body. I took photos and videos of everything. When I told reception, the staff member seemed irritated and rude, even though I spoke quietly and respectfully so I wouldn't alarm other guests. They brought a housekeeper over to check the video, and the housekeeper confirmed they were bed bugs. It threw off a whole day of my time in Brazil. I had to empty my suitcase, take a taxi to a laundromat to wash all my things, and find an Airbnb elsewhere. I was told the laundry cost would be reimbursed, but when I came back that evening the manager wasn't available, and I never got the money. Nobody apologized at any point. The bites stayed in itchy clusters for about two weeks and looked nasty. I did get a refund for my stay, which I appreciate. I've stayed at hostels all over the world and never had bed bugs anywhere else. I've since seen other reviews describing bed bugs at this hostel over the past year. The hostel keeps replying that the problem has been fixed, but from my experience it hasn't. Management needs to take serious action. The person responding to negative reviews also has an attitude problem. Don't risk staying here.

The workers were really nice and helpful, but our eight-person room was full of people who worked at the hostel and knew the rules. They were still loud and disrespectful at all hours, which was ridiculous. The beds were uncomfortable, the pillows were paper thin, and the rooms felt packed. I wouldn't recommend it if you're on a budget either.

Breakfast was great, and there were activities to join. The main problems were noise and running out of shower soap. Our room was beside the shared kitchen, and people partying there woke us up.

The staff tried to make the stay enjoyable with entertainment and activities. But my private room had a strong smell from the ensuite toilet and bathroom, and there was a lot of noise from construction work.
