The next day, painting began on the wall right outside our room, and the smell became unbearable. The room was already hot, uncomfortable, and smelly. When we arrived in November 2012, we were told our third-party booking didn’t guarantee a double bed. The receptionist called the manager, who wouldn’t look at us and spoke English to the receptionist, though both were Brazilian. Maybe she assumed I was Brazilian and didn’t speak English. After saying no rooms were available, the receptionist then said someone had left and a room had opened up. A bit of magic, apparently. I won’t be back. Given the good reviews, I can’t believe they’re genuine.

The staff were nice, but breakfast the next morning was a little lacking. My room had no air conditioning, so it was really uncomfortable. It’s a cheap place, and you get what you pay for. I’m glad I only stayed one night, and I wouldn’t return because of the neighborhood.

I went back to look at the place after all these years and now it seems even worse. What a shame, it could be improved with a little care. Back in 2011, we waited a long time for our room, and the lovely online picture didn’t match what we got. We were heading to the fair and didn’t want to waste more time then.

The setting is really fun, with a wonderful view and very entertaining people. The yard just needs a bit of upkeep, some trimming and cleaning. Apart from that, a great place!
