Casa Nova Hotel

I came back for a second stay because they offer free luggage storage and are so friendly. It’s not for bougie people, but I was very satisfied. There are small restaurants, açaí, the metro, a bus stop right outside, laundromats, and street food nearby, as well as the seleron steps and market. It’s easy for Ubers to pull over, and I found it very walkable. The hotel might look dingy, but it was clean and hygienic, and the service was stellar throughout.

The location is near a few tourist sites, but the area felt sketchy and I wouldn’t have walked around alone. I was booked for a week, but left after three days for a better hotel. The internet crawled along at 0.5 to 1 MB, too slow to open email or a website. The room was dirty, the mattress stained and smelly, and the thin sheets barely fit it. The AC didn’t work in 35° weather. When I raised these problems, the staff made it seem like I just had to put up with them. I also contacted the booking agency, but they weren’t helpful. I don’t recommend this place at all.

My flight was delayed by more than 12 hours, and although I wrote to them, they canceled my seven-night reservation because I didn’t arrive on the scheduled day. They still charged me a cancellation fee.

Bed bugs. The place was as clean as a homeless shelter. I told the manager we had bites from the bed, and all he did was have the sheets cleaned. Avoid this place unless you’re homeless.
