Casa Tuxi

My room door wouldn’t shut properly, so I had to barricade it to feel secure. The room was in bad shape and pretty gross, with holes and stains on the walls, a completely worn out toilet seat, missing outlet covers, and air conditioning that barely worked. The front desk staff also disappeared for a long time in the morning, and I nearly missed my ride to the airport. I don’t know why this place gets so many positive reviews. Don’t stay at Casa Tuxi.

The noise from a nearby party went on constantly and made it almost impossible to sleep. The hotel also wasn’t close to tourist spots or convenient public transportation, and the room price felt hard to justify. The room was dusty, with cobwebs in several places, and the old furniture was falling apart. The facilities seemed poorly maintained from the moment we arrived. Service was inefficient too, with long waits at the front desk, and the staff came across as unprofessional and unhelpful. We were very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend staying here.

I’ve taken more than three trips to Brazil and spent dozens of nights there, but this was my worst accommodation experience. The mattress was filthy, with marks that looked like blood. The woman at reception got angry and said it wasn’t her fault that a guest had bled on it. But whose responsibility is it to clean the room and replace an unsanitary mattress? They offered me another room, but its mattress was stained too. I had to leave the pousada. It’s unacceptable to charge guests while putting them in such deplorable hygiene conditions. The hotel refused to refund the prepaid nights, and Hotel.com couldn’t do anything about it. Good luck if you’re looking for a bad experience in Brasil.

Fernanda and the staff were amazing. From there, it’s easy to get to the metro, Praia, and a supermarket. The location is really good, and you can enjoy Botafogo’s beautiful, unique scenery, including the famous Pao de Azúcar.
