El Misti Rooms

The reception staff were ready to help with any questions I had, and the beds and breakfast were good too. El Misti Rooms has a nice atmosphere and is close to Copacabana beach. For me, it’s the best pick in Rio.

The price is really good, and the staff made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was good, with local fresh fruit and fresh juice, and sometimes there was a good pudding as well. There’s free coffee during the day. We got clean, sealed sheets and made our own beds. The kitchen is okay, and there’s a fridge for keeping your food cold. Lockers are under the beds, but you need to bring your own padlock.

For Rio, it was pretty good value, quite cheap. The hostel is nice, but the rooms are small and there aren’t enough showers for the number of people. Don’t expect too much.

The only advantage was the price. We paid for a triple private room but were given a five-person bunk room with three-level beds. It was small and nothing like the photos on the website. When we raised this, the staff just said the pictures were old and that room wasn’t available anymore. At 174 cm, I couldn’t sit comfortably on the bed and might hit my head. If you have even $20 more to spend, I’d try another hostel or an apartment. That may be better.
