Gaia Comfort Hostel

I liked the calm atmosphere. It’s not a party hostel, though people were friendly and hung out in the common areas. Most guests seemed to be Brazilian, so I think speaking Portuguese might have made it easier to socialize. The front desk staff were all really helpful and friendly. I had a private room and bathroom, and it was cleaned every day, which I hadn’t expected. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was good. It’s a safe, clean place in a nice neighborhood, and I felt fine walking around nearby streets alone as a woman, even at night. There’s a good supermarket down the road too.

The staff were friendly and the location was good. The beds were uncomfortable and noisy, though, and the WiFi wasn’t working during my stay.

I had a great time here and made amazing friends. It was perfect for remote work, relaxing, playing pool, or walking to the nearby beaches. The staff were amazing and even arranged somewhere for me to stay over Christmas, along with a Christmas meal. The facilities were excellent too. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at, and the best one I’ve visited in Brazil. Can’t recommend it enough 😄

A relaxing place with a moderately social feel, but not a party hostel. The beds were comfy, and there were good shared spaces for working or relaxing. Helpful English-speaking staff, a well-equipped kitchen, and plenty of grocery stores nearby. A great option in Botafogo.
