Gerthrudes Bed & Breakfast

The owner is amazing and does everything she can for you. The place is beautiful and clearly a credit to her and her family. Rooms are lovely, the beds are so comfortable, and breakfast is fab, with different choices each day. It’s up the mountain, but the views make the trip worthwhile. Everything you need is there, and it feels like a home away from home. Definitely worth a visit. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

We spent a week at Gerthrude's and had a wonderful time. Our flight got in hours before check in, but we could pay part of the daily rate to arrive early. The owner greeted us and offered a delicious breakfast in the lovely dining room, with views of Sugarloaf Mountain. After breakfast, her son gave us a local map of Santa Teresa and pointed out good bars, restaurants, and cafes. We tried all the places he recommended and loved them. I also used the pool on a hot afternoon. The water was just the right temperature, and from the loungers we had a fantastic view of the city and Sugarloaf Mountain, as well as the local airport, where we watched planes take off and land.

Before we had to cancel, the short exchange after I booked had already been so kind that I was looking forward to staying at Gerthrude's and seeing Rio. My friend was in a serious accident just before the trip, so we couldn't go. Gerthrude's treated us with exceptional kindness, understanding, and generosity through the unfortunate situation. I can only recommend choosing this hotel. I hope I can get to Rio soon and enjoy this wonderful city from there.

We loved staying with the two brothers. They were welcoming and very helpful, and the rooms had comfortable beds. Breakfast came with lots of options and was served in a beautiful setting. The view, hospitality, atmosphere, and decor were all lovely.
