Hotel Barão do Flamengo - Adult Only

The location is the only real plus, and there may be other places nearby at similar prices. The room WiFi didn't work, so I had to use my own data. Staff spent two hours trying to fix it without success. They knew WhatsApp calls wouldn't work from the room, but still said my phone was the problem. I later read this is common among residents there, so it felt like the hotel may be deliberately leaving it unfixed. The air conditioner was old, with no way to change the fan direction or temperature. The AC made the room very cold, and they provided only a bedsheet instead of a blanket. There was no water bottle or refill station, and the only charging point was the one shared with the AC plug. Breakfast was listed as included, but that apparently meant coffee and a few pieces of bread. Nobody explained that, so when I ordered an omelette and sandwich thinking they were part of breakfast, I was charged inflated prices. Don't get the breakfast package, it's not worth it.

The receptionist was really nice. My room was tidy, with air-conditioning and a bed that was comfortable enough. Still, it felt more suited to spending a few hours with someone special than staying the night.

Flamengo is a great location, with a metro station just a few minutes away. The staff were kind and helpful, parking inside was free, and the price during Carnaval week was very affordable. But the beds and pillows were awful. I get that this is a hotel for a few hours or one night, but after three nights on that bed, we were both aching all over. I had a backache for the whole day. It felt like sleeping on a wooden floor, with no soft mattress. They shouldn't accept bookings longer than one night. It was bad for our health. Breakfast was mostly just coffee and toast.
