Ipanema Hostel Club

I had a great stay. The location is excellent, the staff are lovely, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Prices are very reasonable, even for a private room. Thanks from one very happy English guy! 🙂

The only good things were the price and location. All seven of the different staff members I met during my stay were rude, and I can't think of a kind word to say about any of them. They seemed miserable at work, and getting an answer or a bit of help felt like a huge favor. I've never felt this way in a hostel.

It's a basic hostel with decent essentials, great service, breakfast, a kitchen, and a small lounge. It's quiet rather than a party place, though roommates and staff sometimes came in very late or early in the morning and talked a lot. The big dorm bathroom could use a deep clean and an upgrade. Ventilation seemed poor, and I thought I saw mold. There was little space to get ready, the lighting was bad, and the floors were dirty. The beds and old linens were overused too, so newer mattresses and bedding would help. They do provide lockers and a towel if you ask, and the beach is about two blocks away.

I stayed at two other hostels before finding this gem, just a 100m walk from Ipanema beach. The rooms are clean, and you can stretch out in the hammocks and plan your days. Prices are very reasonable, breakfast is included, coffee is available all day, and water is free. The service is lovely. It feels like home, with a relaxing, family friendly atmosphere and a kitchen where you can cook. You'll feel safe, with smiles all around. If you're after a young, super social party hostel, this isn't the place. Thanks for a lovely stay, Junior, Paulo, Papito, Marcela, Marta, Rayssa, and everyone else 😊
