The plaza was being worked on when I went, so it wasn’t looking its best. I came for the market, though, and loved it: fresh, local food at good prices. If you’re after fruit, a casual bite, or fresh fish, it’s worth a look. We picked up some fruit and juices before heading out.

There’s plenty to eat at the restaurants around the park, and the Sunday flea market itself takes an hour or two to browse. People sell all sorts there, from clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses and stones to food and paintings.

Ipanema has a lovely little public space here. We were only in Rio a short time, but came across several fun markets.

The Sunday market was such a nice find. Lots of great vendors with handmade things, clothes, photos, art and little trinkets.

I loved how much there was to choose from. I found a great vinyl purse and a couple of belts, and would’ve bought some art and placemats too if I’d had space in my suitcase. It’s not far from the beach or the restaurants. I’d recommend it.
