Lumiar Hostel

The place was filthy, and we got no hospitality at all. The woman at the supposed reception stopped us halfway up the stairs with our heavy bags to explain the door and keys. She barely waited for us to put the bags down before asking for payment. They said the place had no water, but by that evening it seemed the problem wasn't the water, it was the guests. The kitchen was a mess, with dishes piled up, crumbs in the cupboards, and someone's underwear hanging in one bathroom shower. The beds were uncomfortable, the sheets were badly worn and apparently hadn't been washed before we got to the room. There was a TV, but it was just decoration, and the house wifi wouldn't connect, so neither was any use. It was extremely noisy, like cars were driving right through the house. The bathroom was tiny, dirty, and uncomfortable to use for a shower or anything else. The cupboards and dishes were disgusting too. The staff communication was terrible, and there wasn't really a reception. This is the worst place I've ever stayed. I can't believe the good reviews are real. If I could write a million times about how horrible it was, I would.

My stay at Hostel Lumiar was excellent. It's cozy and clean, the staff are attentive, and the location is great, with a bus stop right outside and the metro within walking distance. I saw lots of police vehicles along the road at night, so it felt safe. I'll definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for good value.

I don't usually write reviews, but this place deserves one. It's clean and quiet, the service is excellent, and they make delicious cakes for breakfast. As a solo traveler, I also think it's really important to say that it feels safe for women and gender non-conforming people traveling alone.

Clean and well organized, with attentive staff and transport right outside. It's well located too, about an hour's walk from Parque Nacional da Tijuca, which is great for sports, trekking, and outings. Well done to everyone involved!
