Mar do Rio Hostel

The rooftop facing the ocean is gorgeous, with a striking view of the Atlantic Forest around the hostel and the largest pacified favela in the world, set at the foot of Morro Dois Irmãos. It's near Praiinha, a beach popular with Vidigal residents where tourists are also welcomed, as well as the Leblon lookout and Ipanema, described as the world's second best and most charming beach in 2024. At the hostel entrance, the condominium gate has a bar and restaurant with cold beer and some nationally known local food specialties. It was lovely having a beer with Sr. Miguel and Dona Carminha. There's also an adventure guide on site, so ask for PH to arrange a visit around the hill and trails, with some extraordinary moments along the way. This is a warm, family-friendly place, and the rooms and bathrooms were always clean. Dona Das Neves is a real host, and Senhor Jorge is a gentleman. It draws friends, families and tourists from all over Brazil and a few other parts of the world. There isn't breakfast or lunch service, but the hostel is well equipped for making your own meals and doing laundry.
