Bill and Sue are a lovely couple, and they’ll look after you. They speak English natively and are fluent in Portuguese and French. The pousada sits in Santa Teresa with rainforest behind it, and staying there gives you a sense of what living in Rio is like. I was there for Carnaval and got pickpocketed at a local blocko, so use the room safe or leave valuables with Bill and Sue. There’s also a restaurant across the street that I thought was the best in Rio. From the balcony, bring binoculars to look down at the Sambódromo. Such a lovely place.

These neighbors are awful. They hold loud parties late into the night on a residential street, keeping local residents from resting. The parties seem suspicious to me because you can hear women laughing, and there’s no business phone number listed for contacting the people responsible.

The terrace has a lovely pool, a great place to unwind and sleep well. The city view is fantastic, and the place is clean, with a great breakfast and very attentive service. There are good restaurants nearby too.

They’re noisy, holding late night parties that I consider low class and involving sex tourism. It keeps residents of Aprazivel Street from getting a peaceful night’s sleep.
