Renata made check-in especially welcoming. She was kind, attentive, and professional, and her service really stood out. My stay at Mercure Barra was very good overall. The hotel is comfortable, well located, and a pleasant place to stay.

I’ve been staying here for over five years, and it’s still my favorite hotel in Rio. The staff is fantastic, the services are excellent, and the location is perfect. But the rooms need maintenance, especially for the rates they charge. The wallpaper is peeling, there’s mildew in the shower, and the bedding has stains.

The location is amazing, but the rooms don’t meet four-star standards, and the staff seem poorly trained.

The good points are the safe neighborhood, beachside location, decent clean rooms, and a breakfast with plenty of variety. One issue is that only a limited number of front desk staff speak English. I asked if I could pay for my guest’s room a day before he arrived and was told I had to wait until he checked in. When I asked whether they could call my room when he got there, the staff member replied, “why not my guest call me when he arrives” lol. Two hours later I asked someone else at reception, and he charged me. Water also isn’t free.
