Midas Rio Suites

From a higher floor, the view is great, and the staff are nice. It's a clean, good hotel with a nice swimming pool. The location is quite far from the city center, though, and there's no bar inside.

The hotel is close to the Convention center, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a long way from Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, though. Local transport took ages, while taxis were quicker but expensive.

The best thing about Midas is how handy it is for Riocentro. There's a small shopping area right next door with a convenience store, a grocery store that has a nice breakfast place inside, and even a laundromat. That made it more appealing to me than the Grand Mercure, which may be more luxurious and is also across from Riocentro, but sits at the other end of the center with no shops nearby. Many of my peers at the Grand Mercury came over to our shopping area for things they needed. I'd stay here again if I return to Riocentro. The rooms are clean, but the walls are paper-thin. I could hear conversations from the suite next door. Guest service was OK, nothing fantastic, and the hotel itself is pretty average.

The air conditioning wasn't working in my room or anywhere on the floor from early morning until late at night. I ended up having to move to another hotel. Total mess, horrible service, very small rooms, and not very clean.
