My reservation was canceled just an hour before check-in, and they offered no help or solution. We were left on our own with our luggage, trying to book somewhere else. Having everything booked more than four months ahead meant nothing. It was the worst tourist experience I’ve ever had. Terrible and not trustworthy.

The apartment was good value for the price, and I’d recommend it. It was a suitable size, with hot water for showers, reliable Wi-Fi, easy check-in and checkout, a large living-room TV with Netflix, and an AC unit that cooled well. It also had an ironing board, full-size fridge, cleaning supplies, some small toiletries, and plenty of extra towels and sheets. The response time was great from day one. Its location between cocabanca and Ipanema was great, and felt safe. There were a couple of issues. After purchase, they asked for extra registration paperwork that the Airbnb listing hadn’t mentioned. All requirements should be listed there to avoid surprises. Also, the housekeeper walked in without warning before the 11am checkout time, which was alarming. They need a better process to prevent that.

We ended up leaving the apartment and finding another place ourselves. We’d rented for four people but were given a place for three, with an extra “sofabed” in poor condition. The AC didn’t work, so we slept with the window open, while bats flew around making their distinctive high-pitched sound. Everything was horrible. I have to say the Pineapple staff tried hard to fix things. But the person in charge of the company wouldn’t understand the problems we had or accept any of the possible solutions we asked for.
