We weren't told when booking that the inn was on an island and we'd have to take the ferry and pay each time we crossed. The address on Airbnb sent us to a community, and the Uber ride, which was supposed to cost 100 reais, came to 284,00 because it didn't have the correct address for the inn. The toilet never had water for flushing, and the whole place felt very strange. I don't recommend it.

Staying on Ilha da Gigóia gives you the experience of living on an isolated island. The boat crossing between the island and Barra, in either direction, is really enjoyable, but remember to factor it into the cost: it's 3 reais per person each way, so going out twice in a day adds up to 12 reais per day. Plenty of tourists stay on the island, including people from abroad. The inn itself is rustic and very basic, just a place to sleep. We got breakfast at the bakery on the corner. All in all, I recommend the experience.

I don't recommend it. It fell short in several ways. We chose it because of the good reviews on AirBnb, but the disappointment was huge. If it had just been one thing or another, fine, but nearly everything was a problem.

I only stayed for 24 hours, but it was a good stay. I just needed somewhere to spend the night, and Dona Lídia was really helpful ❤️
