Pousada Rio144

I'm from Rio, and after staying at Rio144 I can't think of a better place for someone to visit and enjoy a stay in my home city. The view is like something from an artist's masterpiece. Everyone on staff is genuinely warm, caring, and friendly, and the service is great across the board. I needed help several times, and they were always there for me. Every meal was delicious and outstanding, thanks to a great chef. Congratulations to everyone who keeps this place going, especially Lucas, Thalita, Elaine, Jean, and Nilton.

We got ready for our wedding at Rio 144 on the day itself, and the staff were so sweet and accommodating. The owner was there too, and even drove some of our party to the venue when we were running late. The food was amazing, and the photos came out GORGEOUS. It was a perfect experience. We'd LOVE to go back!

The view over Rio from the rooms and pool, with Pao De Azucar and the Christ in sight, is reason enough to stay here. This was one of the best boutique hotels we've stayed at. It's in Santa Teresa, about a 20-minute Uber ride from Copacabana. Everyone was incredibly helpful, whether we needed a recommendation or help calling a cab. We also loved the stocked bar, which runs on an honor system and is available any time, day or night. Breakfast and lunch were good, and for a reasonable fee we could check out very late, which helped a lot. Getting an Uber or taxi wasn't a major problem despite the last 200 m being uphill and winding. It might take a little longer to find an Uber, but we managed at different times of day and night. We had a wonderful few days here after visiting the Chilean Atacama, and we'd love to return. From the romantic rooftop bar and sun terrace, you can see The Redeemer and Guanabara / Rio Bay. The rooms are quiet, nicely appointed, and have bay views, like the rest of the property. The owners, Ståle and Jean, are lovely, helpful, and interesting. They live onsite most of the year and also have another boutique hotel in Marrakesh, Riad 144. The views are sublime, world-class, and unbeatable. My wife and I loved Rio and felt very safe. Stick to the main tourist areas and use practical judgment about your surroundings, and you can reasonably expect a hassle-free time in this spectacular, vibrant city. We found Uber and walking the easiest ways to get around. And remember to put the sugar for the Caipirinha's back in the fridge at night, or the monkeys will steal it ;-)
