The room was charged to us again two days later, and getting in could be difficult since you can only enter the house through the host's buzzer. He speaks English quite well but often doesn't respond. Breakfast was served nicely, though when it was available depended on when they decided to buy the ingredients. The double room itself was old and dirty, with a very unstable lock. Worst hostel we had in Rio.

The noise made it feel as if there were no doors or windows, and I needed earplugs to sleep. The shower swung between cold and boiling, with no usable temperature for more than a few seconds when adjusted. There were no bathing amenities, the towels were very scratchy, and there wasn't even enough toilet paper. WiFi was unstable and sometimes disappeared; when I asked, the staff member said he knew and told me to look for the power and restart the router. The room and bathroom were old and kind of dirty. We were glad we'd brought a travel sleeping bag because we weren't sure the sheets were changed for each guest. The area outside was dull, with few restaurants and no bars, though Copacabana was close, basically the only positive. Free breakfast was offered after asking, but don't expect anything special. We left after two nights for somewhere better.

Good value for the money. The host is nice and helpful, the rooms are clean, and the air conditioning works well. The kitchen and eoof are nice too. Great hostel.

This is the real deal, a really nice hotel.
