Rio Orla Botafogo Hotel

It's not a five-star hotel, and I almost gave up after reading the reviews, but I ended up finding it very good for the price. The staff were attentive, and I'm grateful. I'll be back next Carnival.

There was even a charger melted and burnt in an outlet, a serious fire hazard, and I don't buy the claim that improvements are being made every day. Most of the staff seemed dismissive and uninterested, though the night concierge was the one person I can praise. I paid $650 for four nights in a dump. I should have listened to the negative reviews. I never expected such a terrible stay. This hotel feels like a scam and a front, and should be investigated. The infrastructure was deplorable, with almost everything in bad shape. The elevator, TV, remotes, intercom, lights, and lamps didn't work. The elevator handles were broken, and its doors were damp. The showers leaked, and the foam mattress was sunken and far too soft. There wasn't a closet or any furniture to put away clothes or belongings.

The location was OK, but a lot of things were broken. The Wi-Fi didn't work in the rooms, nor did the air conditioning, and there was no fan. The elevator also stopped working sometimes.

I stayed here around five or six years ago and had no complaints. Coming back this weekend with my family was a huge disappointment. The hotel feels abandoned. There was no breakfast, the floor was dirty, the elevator didn't work, and the TV wouldn't turn on. The air conditioner only blew air. The bed was awful and the sheet smelled bad. The bathroom leaked and smelled bad too. The shower drain was clogged, so water ran over toward the toilet, and the toilet itself leaked urine onto the floor. There was no room service. To top it off, the guests next door had a very strong marijuana smell coming from their room. What a dirty, neglected place. I had the misfortune of spending the weekend there.
