The neighborhood has lovely views, and the accommodation is clean, well equipped, and absolutely worth staying in. Breakfast was spectacular, and Jeison, the hostel owner, was great and always ready to help. Our problem was the receptionist. She was unfriendly from the beginning, gave us unpleasant looks and rude gestures during the stay, and even refused small requests like letting us use the shared bathroom. I can't say whether we did something to upset her or if that's just her manner, but she shouldn't take her dislike of the job out on guests. Everyone else we met was wonderful, including the receptionist's colleagues.

The owners were friendly, courteous, and helpful. It's peaceful and serene here despite being close to the busy streets, and it has a homely feel. There's a kitchen outside the room, which helps keep costs within budget.

The location made it easy to see Rio on foot or by public transport, which was exactly what I wanted since I'd only ever glimpsed the city from the airport drive to Praia Seca. We're usually in Praia Seca, so this was our chance to visit properly. The hosts were lovely and helpful. We even bumped into our host on his motorbike in the center while we were walking around. It was so funny to be greeted like an old friend in a city we'd never been to. Back at the Residencial, Escalaria Selaron is super close, as is good nightlife with great food and drinks. The Santa Teresa tram, which goes across the aqueduct arches, is just a short walk away. Breakfast was good, the neighborhood felt safe, and there's parking if you let them know ahead. We had a really good stay.

Fantastic location and great value for money. A great place to stay in Santa Teresa, and the owner is quite a character, smart and knowledgeable.
