Wyndham Rio Barra

I found cockroaches in my room even though there was no food out, and management showed no urgency or concern when I reported them. When I called to ask when housekeeping would come, they suggested I leave the room. But how could I leave without getting rid of the cockroach, and what if it hid in my luggage? Check-in was also a nightmare: despite the 3:00 PM check-in time, I didn’t get a room until 4:30 PM. With 15 people in line and staff taking about 20 minutes per person, every guest looked exhausted. After all that waiting, there wasn’t even soap in my room. I also had to wait 45 minutes after requesting items from the front desk, only to be told on a second call that they weren’t possible. The hotel advertises an on-site ATM, but staff said it didn’t exist. They gave me wrong directions to the nearest one, and I had to ask someone local on the street. I left my wallet in my room during the stay; after I returned to the U.S., I discovered a card missing, with over $10,000 USD in attempted fraudulent transactions. The card never left the hotel room, so it would seem likely that it was taken from my wallet at the hotel or at the airport. Rio is incredible, but every point of friction on my trip came from the Wyndham Barra. I travel extensively, and this was objectively my worst hotel experience. I felt they didn’t value my time, comfort or security. If you want a smooth trip, don’t stay here. In the Barra area, go down the street to the actual resorts instead and avoid the problems I had.
