I stayed at hostel Barra for several days and would definitely come back if I'm in Salvador again. The place exceeded my expectations, with a nice balance between quiet time and socializing. Staff were very friendly and shared lots of tips on where to go. Breakfast was substantial every day, the bedding was changed daily, and all the areas were cleaned. The location was ideal for a morning swim at the beach, and the centre was only about 15 minutes away.

The beds were super comfortable, and I liked my room, the 8 share female one. The location is great, close to the mall and everything Barra has to offer. This works well if you don't need to cook, but it isn't the place for anyone who wants to use a kitchen. It's off limits until 10am to encourage guests to pay for breakfast, and after that staff use it for their own meals. A few staff members weren't very friendly, though the language barrier can be challenging on both sides. I'd recommend it to most people, just not those who need a kitchen haha.

I've found it to be the best hostel in Salvador so far, from my limited experience. It's a great place to meet other travelers, with nice communal areas and especially friendly staff. The Christmas Eve barbecue made me like it even more. My main annoyance was the cleaning staff coming into the dorm at 9AM, opening both the balcony and entrance doors, then talking loudly while half the room was still asleep. I don't know why they can't clean later once everyone is up. Also, some guests are inconsiderate and leave piles of clothes all over the room and bathroom. That's not the hostel's fault, but it's worth knowing.

The air conditioning and fan made the rooms really loud all night, and nobody was very communicative. Still, the stay was fair for the price.
