Hostel Familiar

The owners are really friendly and chatty if you speak Portuguese. If you don't, then learn it. The street is lovely and colonial, and the location is fantastic. Breakfast was pretty good, with fruit, scrambled egg, juice, and coffee or tea. There's no hot water, but it gets so hot there that it's okay.

The kitchen has everything you need, and the WiFi worked well. My room was cleaned every day. One woman spoke Spanish, so we could communicate easily. The others only spoke Portuguese, but they were kind and tried to talk with me anyway. They didn't slow down, so I had trouble understanding, but I appreciated the effort.

During the Carnival circuit, we stopped at Casa familiar for a quick bite with our group of six. Patrícia's service was incredible, and she talked us all into having a drink. Such a good call! The surprise soup was wonderful and the caipirinha delicious, but what stood out most was Pati's care and attention. She was like a mom. We'll always come back.

The owners, Helenita and her family, are wonderful people. Each morning they serve a lovely breakfast, and there's a beautiful garden. The location is excellent and felt safe. Everything was great, and I'd definitely recommend staying here. See the historic center and meet these lovely people. Thank you so much!
