Hotel Don Juan

The staff were especially kind, and everything was spotless. It’s a simple hotel with a simple breakfast, but the location is excellent: you can walk to Pelourinho. Free parking, too, and good value for the money.

The staff were warm and gave tourists helpful directions. It’s an easy walk to Pelourinho and close to Elevador Lacerda, in a safe, convenient spot at the start of Rua Chile, by Praça Castro Alves and behind hotel Fasano. The rooms were clean and airy, there’s a garage and room service, and the hotel itself is simple and discreet. Breakfast was disappointing, though, just coffee, bread, cheese, ham, one juice, and cake. Still, I recommend it.

The room was hot, and the fan had no speed control. Breakfast was simple but good quality, and otherwise the stay was fine. What upset me was the receptionist’s lack of respect. On February 2, 2019, at 10:30, my girlfriend and I asked for a room. Seeing our simple clothes, she showed us the cheapest room without telling us there were different options. She didn’t know that, despite how we were dressed, we could afford the hotel’s best room. I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here. Management should guide staff to treat guests better. My money is no different from anyone else’s.

Booking.com offered me the option to pay in installments, which I selected, but the hotel didn’t honor it. The room was dim and our towels weren’t changed. The location is good, but the management needs to improve. Breakfast felt miserly and awkward: someone asks if you want bread or cake, then you get a very thin slice of cake. Honestly, you’d be better off calling room service and paying extra than going downstairs for what they serve. They really need to rethink some things.
