The two things I liked were the beautiful location in the colorful, lively Santo Antonio Area and the nice view over the port of Salvador. Beyond that, our stay was bad and I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It looks quite good from outside, but inside it's neglected, poorly maintained, and sometimes dirty. They could do a much better job cleaning. The staff weren't very helpful, maybe even lazy. When we needed help, we got grumpy, impatient faces and barely a smile after a long trip. Communication was also really poor. We asked many times whether someone would be there to open the door when our bus arrived, but couldn't get an answer. Arriving at night in that area without knowing if anyone would let us in was kind of scary. Breakfast was average at best, and the breakfast area was dirty. To the hotel management, good luck improving almost everything you're doing.

Yuly made sure I felt welcome and safe, and Jociane and Monalisa made my stay feel like home. I'm American and was there for two weeks on a dance retreat. Everyone treated me with respect and helped me through the language barrier. The breakfast was fresh every morning, and the views from the hotel restaurant are fantastic. The food there was absolutely superb too. I'll stay at Villa Salvador again next time I visit Santa Antonio!

I have stayed for years in Santo Antonio, at several hotels on the same street, and trying this one was a mistake. I'm an American/New Zealand citizen and a paying guest, but I was treated with disrespect and constant suspicion. I'm brown, North African, and the white guests weren't treated the way I was. The staff policed my service as though I were a criminal. You have to leave your key when you go out. When I came back, a housekeeper had it, not reception, which made me feel unsafe. On checkout day I went nearby for coffee at 10:30, and a woman chased after me to ask if I was checking out. I said I'd be back in ten minutes, and checkout is listed as 12 pm. The stay was uncomfortable and felt unsafe. Choose another hotel that respects its guests instead of treating them like suspects. Terrible, suspicious service.

I could only stay a short time, sadly. It's a charming hotel in Salvador's historic center, with a relaxed feel and a nice restaurant overlooking the bay. The staff were friendly and helpful all around. Very recommendable.

The staff were so sweet and helpful, and the location is great. It's a nice hotel, and I'd come back anytime.
