Marano Hotel

I liked that room 504 looked out over the ocean, and the blackout curtains kept the morning sun from waking me. The bed was okay, though the pillows could be more comfortable. Hot water and the air conditioning both worked fine. The hotel is in Pituba, an upscale part of Salvador, one block from the shore. There are paths along the water for walking, running, or biking, plus bars there and plenty of restaurants nearby. Parking and Wi-Fi are free, and breakfast is included. We thought breakfast was very good, and all the employees were friendly and helpful. There was a doctors' conference during our stay, and the hotel’s 110 rooms seemed to be fully booked. Even with the extra activity, service stayed good. It’s good value for the money, and I’d consider staying again if I needed to be in this neighborhood.

The whole building is being renovated, so there’s a lot of dust and noise. Guests still have to use the old, dirty service elevator because the new one isn’t ready. The new rooms are comfortable and nice, though. I’d happily recommend the hotel once the work is finished.

I booked five nights for a very special trip with a lot of sentimental value. After I updated my card, I received an email saying the change had gone through and had a booking confirmation, but a few days later they cancelled my reservation. I had to find another hotel that cost much more and had worse amenities. I’ve tried contacting the hotel by email and WhatsApp and still haven’t had a reply. This is outrageous. I’d give it minus 3 out of 5 if I could.

Marano has a lovely ocean view and a good location, not far from Salvador’s business center and nightlife. It seems like a good option for an overnight stay, whatever brings you to the city.
