Pestana Convento do Carmo Bahia

I held an event here for 50 people, and the staff were very professional. The hotel is in the historic part of the city, in a building that used to be a convent and took five years to renovate. It still has the convent's character, with dim lighting and vintage furniture. The rooms are spacious and all different. The restaurant is run by a renowned chef from Bahia.

The historic center location is very good, the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is amazing. I especially like the monastery and church architecture that the hotel occupies. The furniture is quite old, though, and my AC kept making odd noises. My blankets smelled and had some unappetizing stains. Even so, I'd still recommend the hotel.

The building is impressive and full of history, but the rest of the hotel felt very average. Our room was dark and smelled damp, and the restaurant was both awful and expensive. Lunch took a full hour to arrive one day, and the food was poor. I'd eat at one of the restaurants in town or across the street instead. Service at the bar was extremely slow and it seemed poorly staffed. A bottle of wine and a mojito took 30 minutes to arrive. The bar and breakfast staff also seemed completely uninterested in helping customers. For the price, I'd stay somewhere else.

The staff were friendly, professional, and ready to help if anything came up. The breakfast was okay, and the hotel could use some maintenance. The green ceramic in the pool makes the water look unclean. The building itself has a lot of history, originally serving as a Carmelit Convent. I stayed in a very nice loft room with two floors.
